Stephen "Steve" Cupolo (born May 22, 1957 in Niagara Falls , Ontario ) is a former Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who has played in the Italian A1 series for HC Diavoli Milano and Asiago Hockey in the course of his active career . His father Billy and brother Mark were also Italian internationals.
Career
Cupolo was 1974-1977 three seasons for the franchise of the St. Catharines Black Hawks in the Ontario Hockey Association active, which for 1976/77 season in his native Niagara Falls moved and from now on under the name Niagara Falls Flyers changed its name. The Italo-Canadian spent the 1977/78 season in Italy for the first time and subsequently played two seasons for HC Diavoli Milano . The dual citizen spent his last two seasons with league rivals Asiago Hockey . He then ended his active career.
International
Cupolo represented Italy at the 1979 C-World Cup , where he contributed to promotion to the B group in seven games with two goals and four assists. At the following B-WM 1981 the center was again in the squad of Italy, where he scored four goals in seven games and gave one assist. At the end of the tournament, the Azzurri managed to march through to the A group. He was also in action in 1980 as part of the Thayer Tutt Trophy after Italy had previously failed to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid . Cupolo finished the tournament together with GDR striker Jürgen Franke as top scorer, while Italy finished fifth.
