The Blackwater Lightship is an American television film directed by John Erman based on the book of the same name by Colm Tóibín .

The story takes place in Ireland in the early 1990s. At the beginning of the summer vacation, the school principal Helen learns that her brother is in the terminal stages of AIDS . In order to make the last days of his life as pleasant as possible for Declan, Helen wants him to have his entire family around him. The three generations of the family have drifted apart in the last few years and hardly seen. But for Declan's sake everyone comes to the old house on the Wexford coast and looks after him. Living together again turns out to be difficult, but the shared mourning for the dying brother, son or grandson brings the three women closer together again.
