The Blue Onions is a rhythm and blues band that was founded in Germany in 2007. After initial appearances with only one front man and cover songs from the areas of soul and R&B , the band began specializing in 2010 with two front men on a pure tribute program for the band The Blues Brothers . With their former front man, actor Dan Aykroyd , the Blue Onions gave a concert in Düsseldorf in 2014.

Surname

The name Blue Onions refers to the first hit Green Onions by Booker T. & the MG's . The members of this band (including Steve Cropper and Donald Dunn ) formed the band, which Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi accompanied as the Blues Brothers Band.

history

The band was founded in 2007 by Daniel Haertel, Alexander Barnett, Udo Rubach and André Bürkle. These four musicians knew each other from previous projects or from school. After the front was occupied by the later DSDS winner Severino Seeger and a three-piece brass section was found, the band was able to make their first appearance in June 2008 at the Schlossgrabenfest in Darmstadt. After changing the line-up and the resignation of the front man Seeger in 2009, the band reoriented from a cover band to a pure Blues Brothers tribute act - that is, the original line-up with two front men, a second guitar and a four-piece brass section. More than 100 national and international appearances followed, including a concert with Dan Aykroyd, who was Elwood Blues and John Belushi one of the singers in the 1980 film Blues Brothers . In this context, the motto “Germany's Blues Brothers Tribute Band Number 1” was created. Since 2015 the band has performed nationally and internationally, mainly at festivals and occasionally in clubs.

style

The style of music is based on a reproduction of the music of the Blues Brothers Band that is as true to the original as possible. In addition to the original line-up, the use of the original instruments and backline is an important feature for the style and sound of the band.
