The Burning Moon is the second film by the German splatter film director Olaf Ittenbach . It was created in 1992.
action
Heroin addict Peter is supposed to take care of his little sister for one evening. When she is supposed to sleep he reads her the following stories:
- Julia's love
A mass murderer who has broken out falls in love with Julia. When she was sitting in his car and he went to get cigarettes, she heard on the radio that the car was stolen. She runs away, but forgets her wallet with her address. When the mass murderer finds out that Julia has run away, he drives to her address and kills her family. Julia is ultimately saved by a police officer who kills the mass murderer with a shot in the head.
- The purity
The priest of a small, sleepy town has fallen for the devil. In his search for eternal life, he sacrifices numerous villagers to Lucifer. However, the suspicion falls on the village idiot who falls victim to the lynching. After the fact, the killer has a dream in which he is mutilated in hell and then torn apart. After this dream he is seen lying dead in his room.
After Peter tells the two stories, he stabs his sister to death. Then he goes to the balcony and looks at the full moon. He begins to cry and cuts his wrists. Then he sinks to the ground and dies.

backgrounds
Since his first film was a commercial success, Olaf Ittenbach was able to use the money to finance his second film, Burning Moon . The film had a much higher budget than Black Past , so a lot more money could be spent on the special effects. In total, the production costs were around 50,000 DM. The film garnered enthusiasm, especially in fan circles of the horror scene.
Because of its depictions of violence , the film was confiscated nationwide. To get him free again, twelve minutes had to be cut out. This version was officially released by the FSK with an age recommendation from 18 years on VHS. The later German releases on DVD contain the uncut version.
About three months after the release, Ittenbach's house was searched and the film was confiscated nationwide. Ittenbach himself was sentenced to a payment of 5000 DM according to §131 StGB (glorification of violence).
Trivia
In one scene from Julia's Love, Julia's dad watches TV and says that TV is all shit. The scene that can be seen comes from Ittenbach's first film Black Past .
