action

On a radar calibration flight, electronics engineer Mitchell “Mitch” MacAfee spots a UFO , an unidentified flying object. Back on the ground, he found that none of the three radars took notice of this UFO. When military and civil aircraft soon afterwards also spot and report a UFO and shortly afterwards crash or explode, action has to be taken. However, the dispatched interceptors see nothing. The alleged UFO, however, is a prehistoric, alien giant bird that is surrounded by a protective anti-matter shield and is therefore immune to any kind of firearm. The last thing the bird attacked was an airplane, which it ate.

MacAfee, Sally Caldwell and General Van Buskirk use weather balloons to lure the bird . They give the resulting film to Lt. Gene. Edward Considine continues, who sends out planes again to render the monster harmless, but all people on board the machines die. Shortly afterwards, the bird's egg is removed. Since the bird is making the world's airspace unsafe, MacAfee, with the help of Dr. Noymann a weapon that is supposed to penetrate the bird's force field. The bird is now attacking New York and destroying the Empire State Building and the UN building , many people die. Ultimately, it can be achieved that the weapon penetrates the bird's force field, it falls into the sea and dies.

useful information

  • The actors didn't get to see the monster during filming.
  • Some special effects from the Harryhausen film Flying Saucers Attack have been reused in this film. The others, especially those with the monster, "undoubtedly the worst that have ever been seen in a Hollywood film, were produced in Mexico for cost reasons".
  • The film appeared in theaters as a double feature with The Night the World Exploded , which was also directed by director Sears.

criticism

SiMonstrula.de writes: “There are tons of experienced actors at work as opponents of the monster, but they cannot allude against the appearance of the bird. This creature is pretty much the stupidest thing that ever flew through the air. Equipped with an accordion neck, bulging eyes and an unbelievable 'hairstyle', the monster is a wonderful laughing stock. "
