The Horrors is a five-piece British garage rock band formed in Southend in the summer of 2005 . Her first album Strange House was released on March 5, 2007. The video for the first single Sheena Is a Parasite was shot by Chris Cunningham .

history

The Horrors originated in Southend in the early 2000s when Rhys (Spider) Webb discovered his love for records and spinning . On trips to London and the Southend area, he met Faris Badwan and Tomethy Furse, who listened to garage rock like he did in the 1960s . In 2005 they finally formed a band with Joshua Hayward (Joshua Third) and Joeseph Spurgeon (Coffin Joe), which they called The Horrors . Her first recordings were two cover versions , on the one hand The Witch by The Sonics , on the other hand Jack the Ripper by Screaming Lord Sutch , which later appeared on her debut album .

By decoupling Sheena Is a Parasite acquired The Horrors for the first time attention in the UK. The accompanying music video was shot under the direction of Chris Cunningham , who ended a longer creative break. He had first heard the song on MySpace and said he was quite obsessed with it. The Oscar -nominated Samantha Morton plays in the music video, a woman like a maniac all the time swinging his head back and forth while spewing their guts. The clip was not shown by MTV UK. The reason for this was the use of strobe flashes, which can trigger epileptic seizures and not, as the New Musical Express erroneously reported, the bloody subject. Chris Cunningham did not change the video because he believed it would expose his work . Sheena Is a Parasite , on the other hand, was allowed to be broadcast on the American channel MTV2 . Through the extreme portrayal of Samantha Morton as Sheena , The Horrors also gained popularity in the USA and went on the NME Awards Indie Rock Tour together with Mumm-Ra , The View and The Automatic , which earned them additional attention.

After their debut album Strange House was released, the band went on a world tour to promote it. Initially wanted The Horrors as the opening act of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club execute that part of the world tour in the US, which are, however, canceled due to lack of resources had, instead, they were then in June on tour in the US, but this time as a headliner . They made a number of festival appearances in 2007, including appearances at Glastonbury Festival , Carling Weekend (on the Radio 1 / NME stage ), various Scandinavian festivals, Summer Sonic Festival in Japan , and Splendor in the Grass Festival in Australia ; the setlist during several of the summer's performances included a cover of Joy Division's No Love Lost . The Horrors also appeared in the well-known English series The Mighty Boosh under the pseudonym 'The Black Tubes', where they supported the Arctic Monkeys with one of the two main characters (Vince Noir, played by Noel Fielding ) .
