content

Two government agents, Rogan and G, are assigned to investigate the mysterious disappearance of several people that appears to be related to an abandoned old mansion. The house is believed to be inhabited by Curien, a mad scientist notorious for his dangerous, inhuman experiments. The agents soon come across the result of the experiments - biologically created and manipulated, bloodthirsty zombies.

Rogan and G must use their wits and weapons to find and stop Curiae before his zombies can endanger civilization. Rogan's motives, however, are personal, as his girlfriend Sophie is among the missing.

Gameplay

The game principle is a so-called rail shooter . The game is played with the light gun alone or in pairs. The movement within the three-dimensional game world takes place automatically, the players only have to (from the point of view of the agents) fire at the opponents who appear. In order to avoid injuries caused by enemy attacks, precise aiming, good reactions and a quick finger on the trigger are required.

Lightgun for House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii, 2009)

The House of the Dead was particularly popular in the USA, followed by The House of the Dead 2 (1998 / Spielhalle / Sega Dreamcast / Wii) and The House of the Dead III (2003 / Microsoft XBox / PC / Wii / PlayStation 3), The House of the Dead 4 (2005 / Spielhalle / PlayStation 3), The House of the Dead: Overkill (2009 / Wii) and The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut (2011 / PlayStation 3). There are also several spin-offs such as The Typing of the Dead (2000).

The House of the Dead 2 begins at the end of the first part: G and Rogan had freed the house of the mad Professor Curien from the undead there. It seems that the professor died in the process. Now (three years later) an entire city is suddenly threatened by the undead. Agents Gary, James, Harry and Amy make their way into town to find G, who is a specialist in zombies. He is seriously injured at the beginning of the game.

Like all The House of the Dead parts, the second part is played with the light gun from the first person perspective. Multiplayer is possible.

The game is in individual form for Sega - console Dreamcast offered. This was followed by the third part for the Xbox . This was sold with part 2 inclusive. A remake of this double pack was released on March 28, 2008 in Europe for the Nintendo Wii. Since the second part was already indexed in Germany, these two games were not published there either.

On February 13, 2009, The House of the Dead: Overkill was released for Nintendo's Wii console. In addition to the normal version, the game has also appeared on the market as a special edition with a comic entitled “Prelude to an overkill”. Like its predecessor, Overkill was not published in Germany. In other European countries, however, the game is available. The game is in the Guinness Book of Records by the most common occurrence of the word fuck .

Sega confirmed that House of the Dead Overkill 2 is currently being worked on. The target for the release date is the second quarter of 2011. No further details are known so far, and the platform question is still unresolved.

Since The House of the Dead 2 (at least in the Xbox and Dreamcast version) has a variable blood level (i.e. the color of the blood, the option: blood pools, the severed body parts and the bullet wounds), the game is indicated in Germany .

After it was announced in January 2012 that the title The House of the Dead 4, which was previously only playable in the arcade, was available for download, the release date has now been announced. The House of the Dead 4 will be available as a download title on April 17th on PSN and come up with some additions in addition to trophy support.

On April 25, 2013, SEGA released an offshoot of The House of the Dead for mobile devices. The name of the branch is House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels. In the German version of the game, the blood in the game is shown in green. The game's reviews have been average due to its high price and small size.

Age restrictions

PEGI classified parts two and three of the series as "approved for ages 16+". The age restrictions were justified by the violence shown in the games. The USK did not check the games because they had already been indexed in Germany. The American ESRB rated the three parts as "Mature", a release from 17 years.

Film adaptations

2003 witnessed under the title House of the Dead , a horror film by Uwe Boll on the basis of the successful franchise in American cinema its debut, which is available on DVD now. The quality of the film and its proximity to the original are controversial. The BPjM indexed the unabridged version of House of the Dead , which was previously released with an SPIO / JK report. In addition, there is a shortened DVD that has been checked by the FSK with no approval for young people and may be sold to the public. Among the actors here is u. a. Jürgen Prochnow , who also appeared in other works by Uwe Boll.

The follow-up film House of the Dead II was released in 2006 .
