action

Commander Hal Roberts is leading the expedition , which is tasked with finding a warm water zone in Antarctica . Also in the helicopter are the pilot Jack Carmen, the mechanic Steve Miller and the journalist Maggie Hathaway. When the mysterious valley is in sight, the helicopter flies into a storm front. Suddenly the helicopter is hit violently, with the result that all measuring and control devices fail. None of the inmates saw where the blow came from: a giant pterodactyl attacked the machine and was immediately killed by the rotors. The emergency landing leads the group into a deep crater that is not shown on any map. The radio messages bounce off the walls. The provisions last for about 30 days.

When the day dawned, Steve first discovered the carcass of the giant bird that forced the helicopter to make an emergency landing. Hal believes his expedition discovered a Mesozoic island . The group now has to protect themselves from all kinds of carnivorous plants and gigantic dinosaurs . Soon people will come across a shaggy haired man. It turns out that this is the long-missing Dr. Carl Hunter acts, the sole survivor of a previous expedition. After a number of adventures and jealousies for the only woman in the group, Hunter gives the men a map from which they can see where the remaining parts of his wrecked aircraft are. With these parts they manage to get the helicopter back on the road and escape the mysterious hell.

criticism

The lexicon of international films draws the following conclusion: “Naive, fantastic science fiction film with modest special effects.” Tierhorror.de judges: “In 1957 Virgil W. Vogel shot this adventure dinosaur film with simple means in b / w. You can clearly see that the fantastic landscapes are studio sets with painted backgrounds. The dinosaurs are partly represented by monitor lizards, which also fight against each other. A cheap-looking T-Rex, represented by a costumed person, and other models are also used. The acting is good, so that the film is certainly not a masterpiece and has not advanced to become a cult film, but it has its charm due to its charming implementation. "

Entertaining Schnulze with effective special effects and monsters that clearly put the acting performances in the shade.
