The Lion and the Cobra is the debut album by Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor , which was released in the fall of 1987.

history

When O'Connor recorded the album, she was 20 years old and pregnant for the first time.

The title of the album comes from Psalm 91 (" You will go over lions and otters "), and the song Never Get Old begins with a recitative of this psalm in Gaelic by the singer Enya .

The photo of O'Connor on the album sleeve is from Haysi Fantayzee member Kate Garner . The US edition used a "softer" motif as the cover photo.

The album sold more than 2.5 million times worldwide.
