The Matrix: Path of Neo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matrix: Path of Neo ( Engl. About Neos way , just "Path of Neo") is one of Shiny Entertainment developed and on 8 November 2005 Infogrames Entertainment posted computer game . The player can re-enact Neo's experiences from the first to the third Matrix film. The control and combat options are largely the same as with the predecessor Enter the Matrix . The game has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.

There are many ways to fight. It goes from the "simple" but most effective fight with hands and feet to various weapons such as pistols, shotguns, machine guns, grenade launchers and fights with swords, brooms, sticks, etc. Neo builds his skills and learns new fighting techniques as the game continues.

The plot

The real action begins in Neo's office, where he has to flee from security guards and agents (like in the film). Neo doesn't have any special skills here. Right at the beginning there are two different ways.

  1. You are arrested and, like in the film, a bug is planted
  2. You make it to the street and are picked up by Trinity

Finally, the player goes through a few training levels (indicated in the film only by a few seconds in which Neo is training) and there learns the first fighting techniques and the focus or bullet time . In the end you fight against Morpheus.

Before the last level there is a short spot with two men representing the Wachowskis . Analogously, they make the following statement:

“In the film, Neo has to lose in order to win. But it's kind of boring for a video game! So we thought there should be a 15-minute showdown against a mega smith that consists of all little smiths. "

All the junk parts of the city come together in a high-rise Smith. The fight follows the usual pattern of a fight against a boss : the player has to avoid the blows of Smith and fly an attack at the right moment - after a few repetitions the game is over.

Particularly noteworthy are the combat combos that can be performed with bladed weapons. However, the use of the European long sword was criticized: this is sometimes used in the game like a foil. Critics complained that one could also have integrated European fighting techniques from the Middle Ages into the game.

Available weapons

Many weapons, some of which actually exist, can be unlocked in the game. This includes:

  • The double-barreled shotgun corresponds to a classic shotgun, but has a very limited number of ammunition, which is why it should be used sparingly.
  • The submachine gun is also used by the agents, but can be picked up by Neo when he defeats opponents or agents of the agents (police officers, guards, etc.). Neo can also use two machine guns at the same time.
  • The American M16 rifle is the standard rifle of the US Army. This very powerful weapon can be used against Agent Smith, especially in later levels.
  • The agent pistol is an unspecified weapon that is based on a Walther P99 in terms of appearance. It looks like a P99 but is the size and rate of fire of a Desert Eagle.
  • The heavy grenade launcher is used very sparingly by Neo because it has very limited ammunition. Among other things, you can use this weapon against Agent Smith in the final battle.
  • The classic-looking revolver appears very rarely in the game, but with a little luck it can be removed from a police officer.
  • The is a classic Kobudo weapon and comes from Japan. It breaks in the game if it is thrown against hard objects too often.
  • The ax is an ancient but effective weapon that can also be used against swordsmen.
  • The candelabrum is actually a lamp, but it can also be used as a close combat weapon in the Chateau des Merovingers. The candlestick is more suitable against badly or not at all armed opponents (such as some thugs or assistants of the Merovingian).
  • The Kama is a crescent-shaped weapon from Japan that is well suited to defeating opponents with targeted blows.
  • The unspecified, three-blade sword (also known as the tri-blade sword) apparently comes from China and is ideal for repelling blows and blows from the opponent as well as being able to carry out excellent attacks. The Tri-Blade Sword can be found in the levels that take place in the Chateau des Merovingers. It is not known whether this version of this weapon is also available in reality.
  • The Chinese saber ( Dao ) is also a weapon that can be used in the chateau. The saber largely corresponds to its European counterpart.
  • The spear is one of the oldest weapons. However, it only appears in the first few levels of the game.
  • The medieval morning star is a cutting weapon that can throw opponents against the wall.
  • The European long sword is one of the largest melee weapons available in the game. It has a force with which even heavily armed opponents can be defeated quickly in close combat. In contrast to reality, you can use the long sword in the game to protect yourself against fire by firearms in certain situations.
  • The Japanese samurai sword (the katana ) is similar to the European long sword, but (at least in the game) much sharper. Neo can hurl the katana so fast that it can even destroy the enemy's weapons. The katana is referred to as Morpheus' “favorite weapon” in the game.
