The Pier (Original title: El embarcadero ) is a Spanish drama series by streaming provider Movistar + , which was first published on January 18, 2019. The idea for the series came from Spanish producers and scriptwriters Álex Pina , who invented the successful series Haus des Geldes , and Esther Martínez Lobato , who also worked on this series. It was first published in German on November 29, 2019 at Joyn Plus + .
The second season was filmed together with the first season. It was first published on January 17, 2020. At the same time, it was the last season, as the storyline had already been told to the end.

The series was about the two protagonists Alejandra "Álex" Leyva and Verónica Alfaro, who met after the suicide of Óscar León Faus, with whom they both lived unnoticed. Álex is a very perfectionist architect and lives in a big city. Verónica, on the other hand, is a relaxed person who lives with their daughter in a rural area. Álex decides to approach Verónica under a different identity, called Martina. She pretends that she now wants to enjoy a life of freedom in the country. However, she wants to find out why her husband lied, fell in love with another woman and what really happened the night he died.

Production and publication
From March 2018, two seasons with eight episodes each were filmed. The first season was released on January 18, 2019 by the Spanish streaming provider Movistar + . The second season was released on January 17, 2020. It was announced in early December 2019 that the second season will also be the last. According to Álex Pina, the storyline of the series was designed for 16 episodes and therefore another season makes no sense. For worldwide distribution under the title of The Pier , the company Beta Film jurisdiction.
For Germany, ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery acquired the publication rights for their new streaming offer Joyn . The ORF acquired them for Austria. Despite Joyn's announcement that it would release the series on November 30, 2019, the first season was released a day in advance. The second season was released on May 21, 2020. The broadcast on an ORF station is currently not announced.
The first season was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 5, 2019 with German synchronization in the distribution of Beta Film GmbH .
