The Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg is a five-star - Hotel next to the Autostadt Wolfsburg . The hotel, which opened in 2000 and was completely redesigned in 2014, was the first hotel of the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain in Europe. The luxury hotel has 147 rooms and 23 suites.

History, location, architecture and design

Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg

The construction of the hotel was initiated by the then Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG , Ferdinand Piëch . The hotel is owned by Volkswagen AG and operated by the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain, which belongs to Marriott International .

The architect Gunter Henn designed the hotel with a view of the facade of the listed thermal power station north / south . The five-story building depicts the outer outline of a two-thirds circle, with the resulting inner courtyard open to the Autostadt and the outer surface facing the power station. The French designer Andrée Putman designed the hotel's first interior. In 2014, Paris-based American designer Elliott Barnes equipped the hotel with a new interior design that is intended to create a cozy atmosphere and the hotel's art collection is also displayed in the rooms and suites.

Art collection

The hotel has its own collection of more than 600 works of contemporary art. It includes u. a. Works by Robert Mapplethorpe , Arnold Newman , Elger Esser , Günther Förg , Rolf Rose , Agnes Forsthuber and Heinrich Heidersberger , whose oversized black and white photography from the Wolfsburg Nord / Süd thermal power station is on display on the ground floor.

Aqua restaurant

The Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg is home to the Aqua restaurant , which has been awarded three Michelin stars and is managed by Sven Elverfeld . In 2014 the Aqua took a place on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list for the second time .

Spa and outdoor pool

Another special feature is the 40 meter long outdoor pool, heated all year round by means of waste heat from the thermal power station, which is fixed in front of the spa as a pontoon in the harbor, opposite three artificial islands.

Special occurrences

On November 15, 2007, Wendelin Wiedeking , the then Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG and then a member of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG , was a guest at a day before a Supervisory Board meeting of the VW Group, which was to deal with a stake in or a purchase of VW by Porsche a suite by the Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg. During a search of the premises, which he arranged, a switched on baby monitor was found. Both Porsche and Volkswagen filed criminal charges against unknown persons for "wiretapping". The matter was never cleared up.

In 2009 the Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg was voted Hotel of the Year 2009 by the newspaper Feinschmecker .
