The Ritz Club was a music club in New York City , United States .

history

The rock pub was founded in 1980 by Jerry Brandt in the "Grand Ballroom", the largest ballroom in Webster Hall with 1,800 seats. The venue focused on live performances of blues and rock music. The Ritz Club was one of the first music bars to have a screen and sound system for concert films and music television. The club resided at 119 East 11th Street in New York City until 1989. In April 1989, the Ritz Club moved to Studio 54 on 254 West 54th Street in New York City and reopened as The New Ritz . Since the 1990s the name has been changed to The Ritz . The venue has been closed since the mid-1990s.

Artist

Internationally successful artists from the history of music performed in the Ritz Club. As stated here already, among others, Depeche Mode , Duran Duran , Eric Clapton , Living Color , Ozzy Osbourne , Prince , Sting , Tina Turner and U2 concerts. The music channel MTV broadcast the program Live from The Ritz from the club with the show acts Gene Loves Jezebel , Great White , Guns N 'Roses , Hoodoo Gurus , Iggy Pop , Julian Cope , Nik Kershaw , Simon Townshend , The Cult , The Saints and White Lion out.
