The Things That Matter is the second studio album by the American country musician Vince Gill . It was released in 1985 under the label RCA Nashville.

Some record presses of the album incorrectly contained the first page of John Denver's Dreamland Express album , which was also released in 1985 under the same label.

The music website Allmusic awarded three stars out of five for the album. The album was number 63 on the Billboard Country Albums chart in 1985. The single, True Love , was ranked 32nd on the Billboard Country Songs and stayed there for 17 weeks. The single If It Weren't for Him reached number five and ten in Canada and the United States. Oklahoma Borderline ranked ninth and 27th in the United States and Canada, and the 1986 release With You was 33rd in the US and 43rd in Canada.
