The Twain Shall Meet is a 1968 studio album by Eric Burdon and the Animals . It reached number 79 on the United States Billboard 200 .
Emergence
In a new formation, Eric Burdon and the Animals - also known as The New Animals - recorded the album Winds of Change in 1967. With the new line-up, the style had also changed from blues rock to psychedelic rock. In June 1967 the band played at the Monterey International Pop Festival in California. They processed the impressions of this in the song Monterey , which was released as a single in the USA in November 1967 and reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The album itself, like the previous ones, was produced by Tom Wilson and was released in April 1968. The (New) Animals split up soon after in late 1968 and Eric Burdon teamed up with The Creators , whose name he changed to War .
To individual titles
Monterey
The text describes the band's impressions at the Monterey International Pop Festival. Some of the participating bands or musicians are mentioned - The Byrds , Jefferson Airplane , Ravi Shankar , The Who , Hugh Masekela , Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix - and musically, the respective styles are briefly imitated by the band.
Sky pilot
The three-part song is about a military chaplain who blesses his pilots before a mission, then ponders in bed, and the pilots return the next morning. The song is started a cappella by Eric Burdon , followed by the band for the chorus. The interlude begins with a guitar solo, which is soon overlaid by aircraft noise and battle noises. Bagpipe music sounds at the end . Since this is a secret recording of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards acted that all the Blue Bonnets Over the Border Are played, Eric Burdon received an angry letter to the British Government.
Sky Pilot was released as a single and reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Because of its length of over 7 minutes, it was split between both sides.
We Love You Lil
The piece begins with the whistled theme of the popular song Lili Marleen . An acoustic version of the theme follows, which then merges into psychedelic guitar improvisation with ethereal backing vocals.
