The Velveteen Rabbit is a collaboration between the American pianist George Winston and the American actress Meryl Streep . Winston accompanied Streep's reading from the 1958 children's book of the same name by Margery Williams on the piano. The music and reading were also used in 1985 for a video cassette with illustrations by David Jorgensen produced by Rabbit Ears Productions and Random House Video.

Publication and chart success

The album reached number 180 on the Billboard 200 in April 1985 and lasted 4 weeks. It was nominated for a Grammy in 1986 in the Best Recording for Children category.

The album was reissued in 1988 in compact disc format and in 2003 as 20th Anniversary Edition in the same format.
