Theater counter pressure
The theater backpressure was founded in 1983 as a song and street theater group. Theater Gegenruck has been operating as an independent theater ensemble based in Recklinghausen since 1995 . The artistic director is the director Johannes Thorbecke.
With the program of a theater work that combines aesthetic demands with political depth, Theater Gegenruck found recognition beyond the borders of the Ruhr area. Guest performances led u. a. to Douai / France.
Theater counterpressure brought rarely performed authors to the stage in recent years - such as B. Peter Weiss and Heiner Müller . Also Fausto Paravidino and Daniil Kharms were introduced to (again) by backpressure productions.
The core ensemble of Theater Gegenruck is complemented by a network of actors from the entire Ruhr area.
Renowned musicians such as Gunda Gottschalk , Peter Jacquemyn and the international jazz formation Das Kapital (with Daniel Erdmann , Hasse Poulsen and Edward Perraud ) could be won over to participate in scenic and musical projects. In addition, Theater Gegenruck works time and again with young musicians from the Ruhr area.
We have been working closely with the Altstadtschmiede Recklinghausen cultural centers and the Langendreer train station cultural center in Bochum for years. Theater Gegenruck is regularly funded by the Recklinghausen youth culture alliance REspect4you . The supporters also include the state community of sociocultural centers NW with funds from the Prime Minister of the state NW, the Institute for Cultural Work of the City of Recklinghausen and the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Theater Gegenruck is a member of the International Peter Weiss Society and the Association of Independent Performing Arts NRW e. V.
