Kulturzentrum Bahnhof-Langendreer
The Kulturzentrum Bahnhof-Langendreer is a nationally known socio-cultural center in the Ruhr area . It is located in the Langendreer district of Bochum in the former reception building of the local train station .
From 1907 to 1908 the building was built in a modified Art Nouveau style according to the plans of the architect Schlomeyer to replace two old station buildings. In 1984 it had had its day and was abandoned. The demolition could be prevented by a citizens' initiative, which also carried out the extensive renovation. In 1986 the building was placed under monument protection and is a sight on the route of industrial culture .
It houses restaurants (in the former luggage rooms), a discotheque (in the hall), a cinema and meeting rooms . The center is self-administered by the Bahnhof Langendreer e. V. and supported by the city of Bochum through grants. It is the seat of many initiatives and associations . The hall of the discotheque also serves as an event hall for various concerts , cabaret, comedy, readings and children's theater and offers space for up to 600 people.
