The Konrad Theiss Verlag GmbH was a 1956 in Aalen established book publisher based in Stuttgart . The company originally focused on regionalia (especially Baden-Württemberg ) is now a publishing brand for scientific publications in the fields of archeology , history and regional studies . Around 80 new books appear every year, around 650 titles are available. In 1997 Theiss Verlag became a subsidiary of the Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft (WBG) in Darmstadt , initially operating as an independent GmbH . Since July 1, 2013, Theiss has been an imprint of the WBG under the name “wbg Theiss” .

The publisher is known for its current popular science books on archeology and history. In addition to exhibition catalogs, the best-known are the series “ Guides to archaeological monuments ”, the “Writings of the Limes Museum Aalen ”, the “Publications of the German Castle Association e. V. In 2002, 2004 and 2006 the publisher awarded the “Theiss Archeology Prize” to journalists who were able to convey archaeological research results both profoundly and clearly. The journalist award was endowed with a total of EUR 4,000 per year.
Since the change to the WBG, the area of Baden-Württemberg regional studies has been expanded.
