Theo Kapilidis

Theo Kapilidis ( Greek Θεόδωρος Καπηλίδης Theodoros Kapilidis , born July 2, 1960 in Stavroupolis ) is a Greek jazz musician ( guitar , bouzouki ). who lives in Switzerland.

Career

Kapilidis first played Greek folklore in his father's ensemble. He took piano lessons at the age of eight and switched to classical guitar at the age of fifteen. In 1979 he gave concerts with Daniel Guggenheim's quartet in clubs in Athens and Thessaloniki, before studying at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern until 1985 . Back in Greece he worked as a studio musician from 1986; he performed with Tritonus plus at the International Jazz Festival Thessaloniki , worked with Eleni Tsaligopoulou and taught at the Conservatory for Contemporary Music in Thessaloniki. At the same time, the first recordings were made with the Electric Jazz Trio . In the next few years he played frequently in Switzerland, for example in 1989 with the Beat Ramseier Quintet at the Zurich Jazz Festival . With the Electric Jazz Trio he performed at the festivals in Patras and Athens.

In 1991 he moved to Switzerland. There he worked with jazz musicians such as John Viorol , Heiri Känzig , Rätus Flisch , Michael Zisman , Herbie Kopf and Marc Halbheer , Daniel Schenker , Chris Wiesendanger and Tony Renold .

In 1996 he founded his own band, but also played with the No No Diet Bang at the Willisau Jazz Festival . He also played in various bands with Keith Copeland , Johnny Vidacovich and Matthieu Michel , but also with the formation NuevoTango .

He is a lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts .
