Daniel Guggenheim (* 1954 in Zurich ) is a Swiss jazz saxophonist .

Live and act

Guggenheim learned the recorder at the age of five and received piano lessons from the age of eight. At sixteen he played keyboard in a pop band, only to switch to blues and jazz a year later and discover the saxophone for himself. Between 1976 and 1981 he studied saxophone, composition and arrangement at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern .

Guggenheim then went to Paris , then to Rio de Janeiro . In 1983 he met Hermeto Pascoal there, in whose group he played. In 1984 he played with the Swiss rhythm & blues band lazy poker, among others , before moving to the vicinity of Frankfurt am Main , where he has since worked as a teacher in the Frankfurt music workshop . In addition, he led his own groups with whom he toured Europe and South America (including Jasper van't Hof , Christoph Sänger and Udo Kistner ) and made records. In 1994/95 he made his first stay in New York City , where he played with Elvin Jones , Cecil McBee , Richie Beirach , Billy Hart and Roy Hargrove . With Jeff Williams , Scott Lee and Russ Lossing he recorded the CD Sojurn in 1996 and went on a European tour. Further engagements with Bob Degen , Vitold Rek , Keith Copeland , Janusz Stefański , David Liebman , Jürgen Wuchner and Harry Beckett followed, including with Nena and Udo Lindenberg . In 1996 he founded The New York Quartet, with which he recorded the first CD Traces of in 2005 . With the guitarist Georg Crostewitz he formed the Duo Leaf; he also played in the swing size orchestra. He also recorded with Petr Korinek and the Karma Jazz Group around Natalya Karmazin .

Daniel Guggenheim lives and works in Frankfurt am Main.
