Theobald Wrba OCist (born July 19, 1868 in Mährisch Schönberg ; † July 3, 1943 in Kreisbach / Wilhelmsburg municipality ) was a Cistercian and from 1931 to 1943 the 61st  abbot of the Cistercian monastery Lilienfeld .

Life

Born as the son of a butcher and baptized Rudolf , Theobald Wrba attended high school in his hometown and in Olomouc , entered the novitiate of the Lilienfeld Monastery on August 23, 1886 and took the religious name Theobald . On August 24, 1887, he made his temporary profession and studied in Heiligenkreuz . After this study he made his perpetual profession on December 26th, 1890 and was ordained a priest on July 12th, 1891 .

Wrba was then employed for several years in various pastoral care positions and as novice master , prior and cellar master .

On February 11, 1931, chaired by Vicar General Abbot Gregor Pöck of Heiligenkreuz his election as abbot and the next day was Theobald Wrba of diocesan Bishop Michael Memelauer from St. Pölten in the Collegiate Church Lilienfeld benediziert .

Due to the onset of inflation Wrba was burdened with financial worries and had to sell many valuable works of art in order to maintain the economy. The farm in Krems was also sold to the State of Lower Austria in 1938 . The existence of the monastery was threatened by the subsequent National Socialist seizure of power. So that was about 1940 convent building for 99 years to the NSDAP leased and as Kreishaus used.

Since 1936 there has also been an apostolic visitation with the aim of aligning monastic life with more monastic customs, which led to considerable tension in the convent. At the same time, special attention was paid to the design of the pen, which may have led to the closure of the Choir Boys' Institute, which had existed since around 1795.

Abbot Theobald lived in Kreisbach from 1939 after unsuccessful resignation efforts , which were encouraged by the events of recent years, where he also died. On July 7, 1943, he was buried by Bishop Michael Memelauer of St. Pölten in the abbot's vault in Lilienfeld.
