Gregor Pöck O.Cist. (* February 24, 1862 in Wiener Neustadt ; † April 18, 1945 in Heiligenkreuz ) was the 63rd abbot of Heiligenkreuz Abbey near Vienna .

Life

Gregor Pöck was born in Wiener Neustadt as Karl Pöck, attended grammar school there and was dressed as a novice on August 24, 1881 in Heiligenkreuz . On August 15, 1886, he celebrated his primary school and was awarded Dr. theol. PhD . His duties at the monastery were initially of a scientific nature. In 1892 he became a librarian and professor for Thomistic philosophy at the theological home school of the monastery . He also served as prefect of clergy until he was elected abbot on July 24, 1902. The blessing he received on August 20, 1902 by Bishop Schneider .

In 1915 Abbot Gregor Pöck became vicar general of the Austro-Hungarian Cistercian Congregation . After the longest reign of all Heiligenkreuz abbots, he died in the last days of World War II because he had gone to the cold collegiate church at the age of 83 to protect women from the Heiligenkreuz community from Soviet troops. The cold that followed brought him death. He was buried in the collegiate church, as a burial in the abbots' vault of the local cemetery was not possible due to the occupation.

In 1912 he became an honorary member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Franco-Bavaria Vienna in the ÖCV . A street in Heiligenkreuz is named after him.
