Theodor Adler

Theodor Adler (born March 3, 1813 in Kistritz , † September 17, 1883 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Adler came to Schulpforta in 1824 as the son of the Kistritz pastor . From 1830 to 1833 he studied philology at the University of Leipzig with Gottfried Hermann . He spent the last year of his studies at the Royal University of Greifswald with the classical philologist Georg Friedrich Schömann . In the autumn of 1834 he passed the exam pro facultate docendi before the scientific examination committee in Berlin.

From New Year 1835 he taught at the Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin. At Easter 1835 he was accepted into the educational seminar associated with the school. In Neustettin he received the second full teaching position at the Royal Princess Hedwig High School at Easter 1837 . After six years he was appointed senior teacher . Michaelis In 1847 he was transferred to the Anklam grammar school as prorector . From New Year 1852 he was director of the Royal High School in Köslin . He turned down the call given in 1855 to take over the management of the higher education system in the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . Easter 1861 he became director of the Collegium Fridericianum in Königsberg. The Francke Foundations in his native Halle appointed him in the autumn of 1863 as condirector and inspector of the pension institution. At the age of 65 he became director of the Francke Foundations in autumn 1878. On December 15, 1878, he suffered a stroke . Because of the hemiplegia that had occurred , he had to request his retirement.
