Theodor Brandt (theologian)

Ernst Theodor Brandt (born November 9, 1890 in Kaiserslautern ; † July 12, 1981 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a Lutheran theologian, pastor and director of the MBK Bible School .

Life

Theodor Brandt studied theology in Geneva , Halle , Berlin and Tübingen . From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War. In Berlin he received his doctorate in 1918 as a licentiate in theology. He then was pastor in Küstrin-Neustadt from 1919 to 1924 . In 1924 he was co-founder of the Bible School of the Association of Girls' Biblical Groups in Leipzig and headed it until 1934. During this time he was also director of the People's Service . From 1935 to 1965 he was theological teacher at the MBK Bible School Bad Salzuflen. His teaching activity was interrupted by his service as an officer in the Wehrmacht from 1940 to 1942. From 1934 to 1945 he was also pastor at the St. Reinoldi Church in Dortmund . After the war he was pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Bad Salzuflen and superintendent of the Lutheran class of the Lippe regional church until 1960 . In the 1960s Brandt belonged to the "Bethel Circle" around Hellmuth Frey , who campaigned against the existential interpretation of the Bible in Rudolf Bultmann 's entourage and from which the confessional movement No other Gospel emerged .

In 1960 the University of Münster awarded him an honorary doctorate .
