August Theodor Goebel

August Theodor Goebel (born June 18, 1829 in Gelenau near Kamenz , † March 31, 1916 in Stuttgart ) was a German printer and author.

After studying printing , Goebel worked in several German cities, in Paris and London . He became a factor at Drugulin in Leipzig , in 1859 managing director of Müller's printing press in Riga , returned to Germany in 1871 and took over the editing of the journal for book printing in Braunschweig . Through his work on all advances in typography, he helped the journal to a leading position. He lived in Coburg until 1874 and then moved to Stuttgart. Since 1879, when he resigned from the Journal für die Buchdruckerkunst , he worked for most of the graphic art journals and delivered a number of important publications, such as on typesetting in English and printer color. From the tear-off calendar of the company Jänecke und Schneemann in Hanover he worked on 15 volumes, which also appeared in book form.

  • The graphic arts of the present , published by Krais, Stuttgart 1895; new episode 1902.

The city of Kamenz honored Theodor Goebel by naming a street after him and making him an honorary citizen .
