Theodor Lampart (born October 6, 1842 in Augsburg , † October 21, 1893 ) was a German publisher.

Life

Theodor Lampart was the eldest son of the Augsburg bookseller and magistrate Johann Georg Lampart. He attended elementary school and then the Latin school St. Stephan in his hometown, began his apprenticeship with his father and finished it with Stahel. He then worked as an assistant in Salzburg and Bremen . In 1863 he returned to Augsburg. His father was now ailing and needed his support. Theodor Lampart worked in his father's business as an authorized signatory until July 1, 1870, then he took over the traditional company, which was founded around 1680 as Veith & Rieger'sche Buchhandlung and passed into the hands of Johann Georg Lampart and Eduard von Jenisch in 1838.

The Veith & Rieger'sche Buchhandlung was one of the most important German bookshops at the beginning of the 18th century. She mainly published scientific Catholic theological writings and worked closely with Italian companies, especially the Remondinis. A branch headed by Philipp Jacob Veith had existed in Graz since around 1714 . After the handover in 1838, the bookstore in Augsburg was continued as Lampart & Co. (formerly Veith & Rieger'sche Buchhandlung). After Jenisch's death in 1849, Johann Georg Lampart was the sole owner until 1870.

Theodor Lampart restructured the company. In 1872 he sold the prayer book publishing house to H. Kranzfelder in Augsburg, and Manz took over the publishing house for young people in Regensburg . Lampart built up a new publishing house, from which he branched off in 1882 as an independent company, Lampart's Alpine Publishing House, which he retained when he handed over his publishing house to Max Waag in Stuttgart in 1886 .

Lampart was chairman of the Augsburg gymnastics club for several years . He was also a co-founder of the German Alpine Club . A short time later he founded the Augsburg section of the German Alpine Club.

In Augsburg he was a board member of the liberal citizens' association and the trade association. For the last fifteen years of his life he was also a parish officer in the office of financial officer. In 1880 he initiated the local association of Augsburg booksellers, which he then took over as chairman. From 1886 to 1892 he was a member of the accounting committee of the Börsenverein, whose chairman he eventually became. He also worked on the board of the Börsenblatt for a year.

After Lampart's death his business was sold to A. Edlingers Verlag in Innsbruck , later to Georg Huber.

Theodor Lampart had a son with his wife Maria, who also had the first name Theodor and also became a publisher.
