The Turnverein Augsburg 1847 eV ( TVA for short ) is (as of May 8, 2019) with around 5000 members the largest sports and fitness provider in Augsburg .

history

Chronicle of the association

One year after it was founded in 1847, the German Revolution of 1848/49 threatened to be dissolved by the government. Early on, the members were active beyond gymnastics. In addition to the Augsburg volunteer fire brigade , the Augsburg Free State Column also had its origins in the TVA.

After initially using the Ratskeller (now a restaurant) as a gym, they built their own sports field and later a gym in the Apostelgarten (today's Stadtsparkasse in Halderstrasse). The financial situation of the association was very good, as many respected citizens were members.

During the First World War there were few changes in the organization of the association. When the National Socialists came to power, the TVA's independence was severely restricted. Together with other Augsburg clubs, they had to merge in 1941 to form the new large club TSV Schwaben Augsburg . But soon after the Second World War , the forced marriage broke up again and the gymnasts decided to run the Augsburg gymnastics club independently again in 1847.

The TVA finally found its current home at Gabelsbergerstraße 64 (next to the Rosenaustadion ) in 1962. There, a sports area with its own hall, gymnastics rooms, clubhouse, tennis courts, grass fields, skater track, beach volleyball field, restaurants and children's playground was built on over 30,000 m².

In terms of sport, the TVA can also look back on numerous national and international titles in a wide variety of sports. Most recently, the TVA made a name for itself with the German championships in fistball, rhythmic gymnastics, inline skater hockey and, above all, the gymnastics youth group championships, where the TVA girls won twelve titles in a row.

In the past, the TVA has repeatedly hosted major sporting events of national and international importance.

Sporting successes

The TVA supports group work with gymnasts and rhythmic gymnastics. The gymnast groups have a streak of success, the TVA gymnast group has been unbeaten at German championships since 1981. From 1981 to 1988 they were each German cup winner in the TGW (gymnastics youth group competition), a 4-team fight. From 1989 onwards the gymnasts took part in the TGM (Gymnastics Youth Group Championship), in which 5 disciplines had to be completed, and were each German champion. In addition, there is the same number of Bavarian group championships and the good performance of the junior group (students), which has already won several Bavarian championships.

Goal setting, conception, organization

The club implements the concept of the family-friendly sports club, which particularly values family, broad, fitness and health sports. In the opinion of the club's management, it must also be possible for all family members to be able to pursue their respective sports at the same time. Sport shouldn't separate families, but should bring them closer together.

The TVA is a traditional sports club, but also a company with more than 70 employees in the fitness and health sector and over 100 trainers throughout the club. This requires a structured, goal-oriented and professional organization based on commercial companies in order to ensure continued existence at this level. The organization of the association is based on functions, which are then reflected in the offices of the board members. The areas of law, finance, construction, association work and competitive sports are covered on a voluntary basis by the four chairmen, the financial administrator, the secretary, the press and public relations officer and the sports officer. The entire operation of the fitness and health tower is managed by a full-time sports teacher and banker.

Offer of the TVA

In the so-called basic program, which summarizes the traditional sports offer, lessons for adults and children are offered in the various club departments. The studio offer includes all the options that are available in the fitness and health tower - a fully equipped fitness studio, appropriate workout and wellness hours for adults and a sauna area, as well as a huge range of courses with 60 courses per week for children of all ages.

Integrative offers

The offer in the basic program consists of the traditional sports of the club. The aim here is, on the one hand, family sports with practice hours in which the whole family can do sports together, such as Taekwondo for children and adults or family climbing.

In the children's courses, appropriate forms of exercise are encouraged for every age group. The scheduling of the courses is adapted to the school hours. As early as three months, babies are instructed to move with a special PEKIP program. One to two year olds can test and develop their athletic talent in the movement game courses, followed by gymnastics, playful climbing on the equipment course, music and movement, music and dance. Many hours take place in the company of mother / father / grandma / grandpa.

The TVA takes account of the early interest in healthy exercise with its own sports kindergarten "Purzelbaum". In a group of a maximum of 16 children, age-appropriate topics (such as circus, giants, jungle) are creatively implemented in all areas of education and upbringing.

In addition to the regular program offers, special events take place in which the whole family can take part, for example family tournaments in fistball, departmental Olympics, summer parties, department Christmas parties, hikes, bike tours and family skiing leisure time.

Health sport

In the basic program, all members have the opportunity to attend various training sessions. In addition, with the construction of the fitness and health tower, the association created the basis for its comprehensive range of services in this area. In addition to aerobics, there are spinal column courses, fat burners and bodyforming lessons. The fitness studio, which is equipped with strength and endurance machines and supervised by trainers with professional training, can be used for simple training or for preventive and rehabilitation sports.

Practice hours for certain problem areas are carried out specifically and in some cases under medical supervision. The TVA works closely with various health insurance companies. For example, you pay for various courses or subsidize membership in the studio.

Another step in health sport is the playful back school with Qi Gong and Taijiquan for children between six and ten years. Here children can learn correct posture in a playful way and move around healthily. Due to the qualification of the instructor, course confirmations can also be submitted to health insurance companies. The comprehensive offer has already been recognized many times, for example by the health seals "Sport pro Gesundheit" and "Pluspunkt Gesundheit" awarded by the TVA. In 2004, the TVA was also recognized as one of the most innovative associations with regard to its health offer.

Gym

The strength and cardio area on two levels offers ideal conditions for fitness training, regardless of whether it is endurance, strength, rehabilitation or preventive training. The latest Technogym equipment and intensive support from qualified trainers are available. A sauna area with a roof terrace offers optimal relaxation.

Inline skater hockey

The club also has an inline skater hockey department, the 1st men's team has been playing in the 1st ISHD Bundesliga South since 2002 , and in the single-track Bundesliga from 2012 . In 2009 they became German Cup winners , in 2011 and 2012 German champions. They achieved their greatest success to date by winning the European Club Team Cup in 2013 in Delsberg, Switzerland . In the juniors (U19) age group, they won the German championship in 2006 and 2007 and the European Cup in 2008, and in 2010 the students became German champions and vice-cup winners. In 2010, the club provided two German national players, Lukas Fettinger and Frank Kozlovsky, and in 2011, Andreas Fuchs, another player, was appointed to the national team. At the European Championships 2012, in addition to the aforementioned players, Simon Arzt, Benjamin Becherer and Patrick Schenk also represented the Federal Republic of Germany .

cooperation

The gymnastics club participates in the youth holiday program of the city of Augsburg in an annual campaign. In addition to taster courses in climbing or belly dancing, there is also a one-week adventure sports camp for children aged 8 to 12. The TVA also works regularly with the social departments of the city of Augsburg. In cooperation with local companies, one hundred families were accepted into the association free of charge for one year. Furthermore, the association organizes school action days, summer festivals and sports events for individual classes. At the health fair Exposana 2005 in Augsburg, the TVA provided the entire sporting supporting program.

New ways for sports clubs

The TVA tries to combine its competencies in popular sport with the possibilities of a fitness studio . Through this combination, the association opens up new fields of activity that are neither covered by conventional associations nor normal fitness studios. In addition, the parallel structure of the TVA - which is on the one hand an association and at the same time a company - combines the advantages of both forms of organization: for example, the association can continue to act on a non-profit basis in popular sports and at the same time react faster to social developments by being tied to the market. This is particularly important in preventive and rehabilitation sports. The TVA is also given a great deal of financial independence through its entrepreneurial management.
