Theodor Nölting

Friedrich Theodor Nölting (seldom Theodor Friedrich Nölting ; * February 14, 1811 in Hamburg , † March 5, 1890 in Wismar ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

Life

Theodor Nölting was the son of a teacher and grandson of the philosophy professor Johann Heinrich Vincent Nölting . He first attended the Johanneum , from Easter 1830 the Academic Gymnasium in Hamburg and in 1831 went to the University of Halle . There he studied philology until 1833 , including with Gottfried Bernhardy and Heinrich Leo , before moving to the University of Berlin . In Berlin he continued his studies mainly with Friedrich Schleiermacher , August Boeckh and Karl Lachmann . On September 20, 1834, he was on the faculty of philosophy at the University of Halle with the dissertation De Zenonis Eleatae philosophia to Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked in Hamburg as a private teacher and as a substitute teacher at the Johanneum.

On November 7, 1835, Nölting was elected to succeed Friedrich Lübker as a full teacher at the Great City School in Wismar . Its introduction took place on January 4, 1836. In addition, he became head of the Wismar gymnasium. In 1873 he became headmaster of the school and held the office until 1886. On his 50th service anniversary he was honored by a commemorative publication and by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III. appointed by Mecklenburg-Schwerin to the school board . He retired shortly afterwards .
