After the First World War he lived in Bremen and in 1930 married his wife Gertrud, b. He wrote adaptations of ancient, biblical and Chinese texts and created the woodcut illustrations . He worked as a graphic artist and painter and made many woodcuts, a. a. for public buildings. He maintained a down-to-earth style with a very personal touch. His conception of art was an expression of a rich inner world and his free worldview, which was shaped by diverse intellectual interests.

He contributed to the design of Böttcherstrasse and worked closely with the architect Eduard Scotland . In 1930 Ludwig Roselius commissioned him to design the story of Robinson Crusoe, the 6 large-format woodcut panels hang in the Robinson Crusoe house in Böttcherstrasse in Bremen.
