Among the books and writings published by Sonnemann, the work "Gold in the War Economy" (1944, Junker & Dünnhaupt Berlin publishing house) should be mentioned. It is one of the few books that, based on the function of gold in the monetary system, extensively examines the role of gold in the war economy of different epochs, with a special focus on the gold policy of England in the 19th century and especially that of the USA in the 20th century. Sonnemann recognizes the importance of gold in the historical context, but regards its position as no longer given with reference to the pre-war and war economy of the "Third Reich" in modern economics and war economy.
