Life

Paul Swiridoff was born in the Caucasus in 1914, and was confronted with death, hunger and flight at an early age. At the age of 16 he came to Germany and lived off odd jobs. Swiridoff lived in Berlin from 1934 to 1940. There he was able to work as a photo lab technician. From 1940 he lived in Ludwigsburg for ten years, where he opened a photo studio after the end of the war. In 1950 he moved to Schwäbisch Hall, where he ran his own photo studio until 1980. He was one of the first in Germany to open an art gallery that rehabilitated the art of artists who had not been qualified as "degenerate" not long before. Among other things, Swiridoff was editor-in-chief and publisher of the Würth Report company newspaper of the global Würth Group from 1971 to 1991 .

In the photo volume Faces of an Epoch (1997), his 50th book, Swiridoff captured a period of 50 years with pictures of important personalities. Today the Swiridoff Verlag is part of the Würth group of companies. Its namesake was the inspiration for the entrepreneur Reinhold Würth , who subsequently became an important art patron of the present.
