Theodor Wilhelm Heinrich Bank (born January 3, 1780 in Wolfenbüttel ; † March 30, 1843 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian , general superintendent and director of the preachers' seminary of Wolfenbüttel, 51st abbot of the Amelungsborn monastery .

Life

Bank attended the Princely School in Wolfenbüttel and the Katharineum and Martineum in Braunschweig . From Easter 1799 he studied theology in Helmstedt and then became a private tutor in Wolsdorf . In January 1802 he passed the theological exam and was appointed pastor of Wolsdorf. In 1816 he became superintendent of the Marienberg inspection, in the same year superintendent in Schöppenstedt , 1820 consistorial counselor in Vorsfelde , 1828 superintendent in Salzdahlum and in 1832 consistorial counselor in Wolfenbüttel and abbot of the Michaelstein monastery . In 1836 he also took over the function of general superintendent at Wolfenbüttel and, together with Ernst Ludwig Theodor Henke, headed the seminary that was reopened through his influence. On October 23, 1839 he became abbot of Amelungsborn.

Awards

In 1836 the bank became a knight of the Order of Henry the Lion . The theological faculty of the University of Göttingen awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1840.
