Theodora Hantos

Theodora Hantos [ ˈtɛodorɒ ˈhɒntoʃ ] (born December 22, 1945 in Budapest , Hungary ) is an ancient historian and professor emeritus at the University of Siegen . Born in Hungary, she was the rector of the University of Siegen between 2002 and 2006 as the only woman at the 15 universities in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Theodora Hantos was born in Budapest and graduated from the mathematics and natural sciences branch of the Goethe Gymnasium in Hanover in 1965 . From 1965 to 1973 she studied history, German literature, classical philology and sociology at the Universities of Hamburg, Tübingen and Frankfurt am Main and was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Codetermination and the German National Academic Foundation. 1976 Hantos with the work "The Roman alliance system in Italy" with Jochen Bleicken at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main to Dr. phil. PhD . Her dissertation was awarded the prize of the Philosophical Doctoral Commission of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main for the best philosophical dissertation of 1976 and the Sperl Prize of the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in 1977.

From 1976 to 1985 she was a research assistant at the Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina at Brunswick and habilitated there in 1985 for the Ancient History with the theme "Res publica constituta - The Constitution of the dictator Sulla" . From 1985 to 1988 she was a professor at the TU Braunschweig, then until March 1991 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . On April 1, 1991, Theodora Hantos received a call to the chair of Ancient History at the University of Siegen in Faculty 1 (Social Science, Philosophy, Theology, History, Geography). She turned down a call to the University of Kassel that was given at the same time.

From 1997 to 2002 she was Vice-Rector for Research and Young Scientists at the University of Siegen and from 2002 to 2006 Rector of the University of Siegen. On behalf of the NRW State Rectors' Conference, she represented the areas of science and research in the Broadcasting Council of the WDR from 2003 to 2009.

Hantos is a recognized expert in Greek and Roman history and is committed to the University of Siegen. Hantos played a decisive role in the development of a new basic order for the University of Siegen.
