Theodore L. Moritz

Theodore L. Moritz (1935)

Theodore Leo Moritz (born February 10, 1892 in Toledo , Ohio , †  March 13, 1982 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1935 and 1937 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Theodore Moritz attended the public schools in his home country. In 1913 he graduated from St. Mary's Institute in Dayton . He then studied until 1919 at the University of Dayton . In the meantime he worked between 1910 and 1923 as a teacher in Dayton, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. After studying law at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and being admitted to the bar in 1924, he began to practice this profession there. He was Secretary to the Mayor of Pittsburgh in 1933 and 1935. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1934 congressional election , Moritz was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 32nd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Michael Joseph Muldowney on January 3, 1935 . During his two-year term he joined the Republicans . In 1936 he tried unsuccessfully to be nominated for re-election to Congress . He then ran as an independent candidate in the elections that year, but was unsuccessful. So he had to leave Congress on January 3, 1937. During his time there, other New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt administration . In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Theodore Moritz worked as a lawyer again. He died in Pittsburgh on March 13, 1982.
