Therapy (proper spelling Therapy? ) Is a British rock band formed in Northern Ireland in 1989 .

history

Therapy was founded in 1989 in Northern Ireland by Andy Cairns (vocals, guitar ) and Fyfe Ewing ( drums ) . In the same year the band recorded their first demo and Michael McKeegan ( electric bass ), former school friend of Fyfe Ewing, joined the band. In 1990 the band toured the UK for the first time and released their first single with a print run of 1,000. In addition, the recordings began for the first album Babyteeth , which was released in July 1991.

In 1992, the band released the album Pleasure Death , which placed in the British indie charts. A major European tour and a record deal with A&M Records followed . At the end of the year Therapy brought out the album Nurse with the single Teethgrinder . In 1993 the band landed with Screamager , i. H. the accompanying EP Shortsharpshock , number nine in the UK charts, accompanied by a sold out tour and an appearance on Top of the Pops . After a two-month US tour as the opening act for the bands Helmet and The Jesus Lizard , they started in Northern Ireland together with their producer Chris Sheldon with the preparation of their next album Troublegum , which was a great success in 1994 and won several music awards.

In 1995, Infernal Love, was the band's fifth studio album, which has since completed successful tours outside of Europe. In 1996 the drummer Fyfe Ewing left the band and was replaced two months later by Graham Hopkins (drums) and Martin McCarrick (guitar, cello). In the same year, the now four-piece band played as opening act for Ozzy Osbourne in America . After things went quiet in 1997, the band released their next album, Semi-Detached, in Europe in 1998 . Her record company A&M went bankrupt during the accompanying European tour - the subsequent handover to Mercury Records failed.

Semi-Detached will not be released in the USA for the time being . The rest of the European tour has to be financed by the band out of their own pocket. After 1999 got off to a bad start because drummer Graham Hopkins was also out for three months due to an injury, the band got a new record deal with ARK 21 Records and released their only moderately commercially successful album Suicide Pact - You First .

In 2000 the band released the best-of album So Much for the Ten Year Plan - A Retrospective 1990-2000 and toured Europe. 2001 started off well: Therapy played in the United States and the band recorded their next album. After a few more concerts there was another break with the record company and drummer Graham Hopkins, which is why the album Shameless was not released until later that year. The drummer Keith Baxter helped out for the already planned concerts in 2002. In the summer, Neil Cooper was a permanent replacement in the band.

In the fall of 2002, a new record label was found with Spitfire Records , on the 2003 Therapy's album High Anxiety was released. The rest of the year the band spent at concerts and in the recording studio. In 2004 there was a break with Martin McCarrick. In September of the same year, the band released their tenth album Never Apologise Never Explain . At the end of April 2006, the eleventh album One Cure Fits All was released .

In December 2007 Therapy signed a worldwide contract with the British hard rock label Demolition Records and shortly afterwards began work on the twelfth album Crooked Timber , which was released on March 20, 2009.

Album number 13 followed in 2012: A Brief Crack Of Light .
