Life

Therese Kilanyi was born in 1830 as Therese Papp in Pest, the administrative center of the Kingdom of Hungary. When she was 16 years old, she married Ludwig Kilanyi, who was already a successful ballet dancer and, like her, also came from Pest. After training with the then highly respected ballet master F. Crombé, she had an engagement at the Deutsches Theater Pest . With her husband she took part in all engagements as a solo dancer and toured with him through Central Europe . As a soloist couple, the two joined the newly founded national dancer group of Alexander Veszter and undertook various guest tours to Vienna, neighboring Germany , but also to Paris and London . After the death of her husband in 1861, she took over the position he had held up to that point as ballet master at the kk priv. Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna . In this position she worked until 1863 before she held the same position at the kk priv. Theater an der Wien from 1864 to 1865 . Among other things, she made large ensemble rehearsals for equally large spectacles at the Thalia Theater in Vienna, and at the same time owned an art dance school in Gumpendorf . After she appeared as ballet master at the Victoria Theater in Berlin in 1880 and 1881 , nothing is known of her further life.
