Theresia Pfänder , née Berger (born January 20, 1928 in Liegnitz ; † April 2, 2013 in Lahr / Black Forest ) was a German entrepreneur and local politician (CDU).

Life

Theresia Berger lived for three years in her native Liegnitz, then her parents moved to Berlin , where she spent most of her childhood and youth. In 1943 the family moved to Lahr in the Black Forest , where Theresia's father Gerhard Berger had founded a company for measuring instruments and control devices two years earlier. There she attended the Max-Planck-Gymnasium for two years.

In 1947 at the age of 19, Theresia Berger married August Pfänder, who worked as a financial strategist in her father's company. Although the marriage resulted in three children, Theresia Pfänder continued to work actively and in a responsible position in the company. Together, the couple expanded the Berger Lahr company into a flourishing company, which over the years has been one of the largest in Lahr with almost 800 employees.

After the death of her husband, Theresia Pfänder became the owner and manager of the family business and managed it successfully on her own. Theresia Pfänder only withdrew from active business life after the company was sold to the Schweizerische Industriegesellschaft (SIG Group) in 1988.

Theresia Pfänder was also politically active. As a member of the CDU , from 1973 to 1980 she was a member of the district council of the Ortenau district that was newly formed in 1973 . She was a co-founder and, for sixteen years, chairwoman of the friends' association of her former school "Association of Friends of the Max Planck Gymnasium" in Lahr; after her active time in the club she was appointed its honorary chairman. In 1997 she was a co-founder of the friends association "Freundeskreis Klinikum Lahr eV"

The city park of Lahr, a lavishly landscaped private garden bequeathed to the city, was particularly close to Theresia Pfänder's heart. In 1988 she was one of the co-founders of the “Freundeskreis Lahrer Stadtpark eV” association and was its chairman for twelve years. With the aim of preserving and developing the city park for future generations as well, she set up the “Berger Pfänder Foundation” on September 27, 2006 and endowed it with a fortune of 1 million euros. The investment income was used to support projects for the maintenance, development and redesign of the park and intensive public relations work.

Theresia Pfänder died in Lahr in April 2013 at the age of 85.
