Thiébaut VIII. De Neufchâtel
Thiébaud VIII. De Neufchâtel (* 1386 ; † May 21, 1459 , buried in L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs ), Lord of Neuchâtel , Châtel-sur-Moselle , Pesmes a . a., was an advisor to the French kings and dukes of Burgundy and Lorraine at the end of the Hundred Years War.
Life
At the age of 14 he became head of the Neufchâtel family, with his grandfather Pierre d'Avilley at his side. He received his accolade (and thus his legal age) before August 1410. Thiébaut continued his father's proburgundian policy. So he accompanied and supported Duke Johann Ohnefurcht on numerous journeys and campaigns, e. B. in the fight against the Armagnacs . In October 1411 he was appointed captain general of the Duchy of Burgundy , the Free County of Burgundy and the County of Charolais . Together with Duke Johann, he met with Emperor Sigmund , who sent him to theOrder of the Dragon .
In November 1418 he was appointed Grand Master of France and Councilor of the Great Royal Council. He held these offices until the death of King Charles VII in October 1422. Thiébaut also served Duke Philip the Good and was involved in numerous negotiations, including a. on the Treaty of Arras (1435) . He was also accepted into the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece (1433).
Between his services with the French king, the dukes of Burgundy and the dukes of Lorraine , Thiébaut was also constantly busy maintaining and expanding his dominions, which stretched from Franche-Comté to Lorraine .
