Honorary citizen
The city of Germersheim has appointed eleven honorary citizens since the 19th century:
- Anton Edlinger , German general and chairman of the Germersheim Military Local Commission, appointed in 1830
- Franz Eduard von Weishaupt , Bavarian general and eighth of international law in Germersheim, appointed in 1849
- Gottfried Schmauß , German doctor, appointed in 1875
- August Resser , head of the Latin school, appointed in 1888
- Adam Disqué , German judge, appointed in 1889
- Nikolaus Ernst Wündisch , Protestant pastor, appointed in 1889
- Otto von Bismarck , German statesman, appointed in 1895
- Karl Theodor von Sauer , Bavarian artillery general, appointed in 1898
- Eugen Sauer , Catholic dean and bishop. Spiritual councilor, city pastor from 1920 to 1956, appointed in 1952
- Eduard Orth , politician ( CDU ), Member of the Bundestag , Member of the Land of Rhineland-Palatinate for Culture from 1956 to 1967, appointed in 1962
- Siegfried Jantzer , Mayor from 1956 to 1981, appointed in 1987
After the question of whether Joseph Probst should be awarded the title of honorary citizen had already been adjourned twice without result in the city council of Germersheim in 1898 or 1899 , he died. During the National Socialist era , Germersheim refrained from making Nazi politicians honorary citizens.
Before today's district of Sondernheim was incorporated into Germersheim in 1972 , three people there obtained honorary citizenship:
