Creating art

After completing his training, Bender worked as a commercial artist in Mannheim and Cologne . Due to a job at Grimme & Hempel, he moved to Leipzig in the 1890s, where he lived in a shared apartment with friends from Karlsruhe. He founded a studio for artistic wallpaper designs and devoted himself to painting, printmaking and designs for book decorations, above all to art glazing . Here he worked with the companies R. Brand & Co. as well as Schulze and Stokinger. In addition to works for private houses in Leipzig, Hanover and Dresden , his main works were the colorful glass windows in the ballroom and in the stairwell of the Künstlerhaus on Nikischplatz in Leipzig. The Künstlerhaus was completely destroyed by the air raids on Leipzig on December 4, 1943, together with Bender's glass windows.

From childhood sickly, died Bender at the age of 32 years in Deaconess Hospital Leipzig at a cancer . He was buried in Heidelberg .
