As Prime Lieutenant , Martin became adjutant of the 1st Cavalry Brigade in mid-April 1889 under position à la suite of his regiment and was promoted to Rittmeister until June 1894 . From June 1896 to March 1900 he served in the War Ministry in the Department of General Army Affairs and rose to major in mid-March 1897 . From March 21, 1900 to August 20, 1905, Martin was commander of the 2nd Chevaulegers regiment "Taxis" in Dillingen and rose to colonel in this position until March 1903 . He was declared permanently unfit for military service. This condition existed since 1900. It was therefore awarded the star for the October 16, 1908 Martin Military Merit II. Class in approval of his leave request with the statutory pension for disposition made. He then moved with his family from Dieuze to Munich.

After the beginning of the First World War , Martin was re-used as a ZD officer and initially on November 13, 1914, he was appointed representative of the head of the verification office in the War Ministry. On November 22, 1914 he was appointed head of department. In this position he received the Iron Cross II. Class in 1915 and on August 23, 1917 King Ludwig III awarded him . the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility status and he was allowed to call himself “Ritter von Martin” after his entry in the nobility register . He also received the character of Lieutenant General on December 26, 1917 .

As a result of his participation in the First World War, Martin developed vascular calcification and pulmonary flatulence to a considerable degree, as well as a general weakness of nerves. He therefore applied for a war allowance on January 24, 1921, which he was also granted.
