Friedrich Kreß von Kressenstein (General of the Infantry)
Friedrich Freiherr Kreß von Kressenstein (born March 31, 1855 in Germersheim , † June 6, 1920 in Munich ) was a Bavarian general of the infantry .
Life
family
Friedrich came from the old Nuremberg patrician family Kreß von Kressenstein . He was the son of the Bavarian major Joseph Freiherr Kreß von Kressenstein (1821–1871) and his wife, a born von Stetten . His older brother Otto also embarked on a military career and later became Colonel General and Minister of War . Kreß married Nina von Kwist in 1881, with whom he had four children.
Military career
Kreß attended a humanistic grammar school , then joined the Bavarian Army and became second lieutenant in 1876 . From 1883 to 1886 he graduated from the War Academy , which pronounced him qualification for the general staff and the higher adjutantage. In the further course of his military career, Kreß was a colonel in command of the Infantry Leib Regiment from 1903 to 1905 , then major general and commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade . On December 20, 1909, he was promoted to lieutenant general and as such Kreß commanded the 3rd division until March 13, 1913 . He was then put up for disposition with the character of General of the Infantry .
With the outbreak of the First World War , Kreß was reactivated and appointed commander of the 5th Reserve Division , with which he worked in Lorraine and later in France a. a. was used in the Loretto Battle . On October 11, 1914, Kreß also received the patent for his rank. Due to age, he gave up the command on September 9, 1915 and was retired.
