Thomas Absolem McCabe

Thomas Absolem McCabe (born June 30, 1902 in South West Rocks , New South Wales , Australia , † September 14, 1983 ) was Bishop of Wollongong .

Life

Thomas Absolem McCabe received on 20 December 1925 in Rome by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith , Wilhelmus Marinus van Rossum , the priesthood for the Diocese of Lismore .

Pope Pius XI appointed him Bishop of Port Augusta on December 13, 1938 . The Apostolic Delegate in Australia, Archbishop Giovanni Panico , donated him episcopal ordination on March 12 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were John Joseph Carroll , Bishop of Lismore, and his coadjutor Patrick Joseph Farrelly .

On November 15, 1951, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the first bishop of the Diocese of Wollongong, established on the same date . The inauguration took place on February 24 of the following year.

McCabe attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. From 1964 to 1969 he was also military bishop of Australia .

On May 10, 1974, Pope Paul VI. his resignation.
