Thomas Bertels (born November 5, 1986 in Geseke ) is a German football player and coach . He is under contract with SC Paderborn 07 .

Career

Bertels began his career in the youth of Blau-Weiß Dedinghausen and TuS Ehringhausen . In the C-youth he moved to SV Lippstadt 08 and returned to Ehringhausen in the second A-youth year. He then played for two years for SuS Bad Westernkotten and one year for Rot-Weiß Horn until he came back to SV Lippstadt 08 in 2008. From 2009 to 2011 Bertels played at SC Verl in the Regionalliga West , in which he was regularly used.

For the 2011/12 season he moved to the second division club SC Paderborn 07 , where he signed a two-year contract. In the 2013/14 season he played 26 games and was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time with his club . In the 2014/15 season , in which SC Paderborn 07 was relegated, Bertels played in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Köln , but he missed the rest of the season due to a complicated foot operation. In the 2015/16 season he made 13 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga (one goal) and was relegated to the 3rd division with the club . In the 2016/17 season , Bertels made 29 third division appearances. SC Paderborn 07 was relegated in sporting terms, but due to the lack of a license from the second division relegated TSV 1860 Munich, they also competed in the third division in the 2017/18 season . During this season he was used 22 times and contributed two goals to the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.

For the 2018/19 season, Bertels became assistant coach of the U19s playing in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga and also plays in the second team in the fifth-class Oberliga Westfalen , for which he had already played four times between 2014 and 2018. In addition, he was initially still as a stand-by player without use in the second division squad and retired from this for winter preparation; his shirt number 14 was given to the newcomer Khiry Shelton .

Bertels joined its former youth club TuS Ehringhausen for the 2019/20 season .
