The Biedenbacher Woog is an old reservoir of the Leinbach in the Palatinate Forest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

geography

The Woog , as such reservoirs are usually called in southwest Germany , lies on the boundary of the Frankenstein community at about 235 m above sea level. NHN and about 2 km above the confluence of the Leinbach in the Hochspeyerbach . A few meters below the dam , the Bittenbach flows into the Leinbach from the right , between the two bodies of water the Woogfelsen are a natural monument stretching over 20 meters up the mountain slope.

history

The Biedenbacher Woog was by setting up a 1,838 earthfill dam built therein logs to collect and its drift , the water flow to increase temporarily the Leinbachs. The sandstone version of the weir in the dam, with which the discharge can be regulated, is marked as Ritterstein No. 156 . The Trift transported the logs via Leinbach, Hochspeyerbach and Speyerbach to the wooded front Palatinate , where it was taken from the Speyerbach for consumption.

The facility became known in the region as the reservoir of the Leinbach, because a Trift festival takes place on the Woogufer every summer. Costumed "Triftknechte" bring the old rafting trade from 150 years ago to life again.

With a length of about 270 m and a maximum width of 10 m, the Biedenbacher Woog is the second longest of six Woog in the Leinbach, its capacity is 6448 m³. On the side he has a climbing aid for fish , which was built later.
