Thomas C. Bruns (born May 5, 1948 in Eberbach ) is a former German diplomat who was ambassador to Honduras between 2001 and 2005 , ambassador to Brunei from 2008 to 2011 and ambassador to the Dominican Republic from 2011 until his retirement in 2014 Republic was.

After graduating from high school , he studied law at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis and Aix-Marseille University in Aix-en-Provence from 1966 to 1970 and then completed postgraduate studies in European law at the Saarland University from 1970 to 1971 . At the same time he was a research assistant at the local institute for international law and received his doctorate in 1973 . Between 1974 and 1979 he completed further studies in psychology at the Saarland University and between 1977 and 1980 he was also a member of the board of directors of the European Commission in Brussels . In 1979 he completed his studies as a qualified psychologist .

In 1980 he entered the diplomatic service and, after completing his training as an attaché, was employed at the Foreign Office in Bonn and from 1983 to 1986 as a cultural advisor at the embassy in Venezuela . After working again in the Foreign Office, he was permanent representative of the Ambassador in Tanzania between 1989 and 1992 and then Consul General and Head of the Consulate General in Seville . After working again at the headquarters of the Foreign Office from 1994 to 1997 , he became permanent representative of the ambassador in Paraguay .

In 2001 he was appointed ambassador to Honduras . He held this office until he was replaced by Paul Albert Resch in 2005. He himself then became an inspector in the central department of the Foreign Office and was therefore jointly responsible for questions relating to organizational advice, internal audits and the prevention of corruption.

In August 2008 Thomas Bruns succeeded Conrad Cappell as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Brunei . Since October 12, 2011 he has succeeded Christian Germann as ambassador to the Dominican Republic , while Bernd Morast himself followed him as the new ambassador to Brunei. He was ambassador there until mid-2014 and then retired.
