Thomas Bugnyar

Thomas Bugnyar (born July 12, 1971 in Eisenstadt ) is an Austrian biologist and behavioral scientist .

Life

Thomas Bugnyar obtained his Matura at the Federal High School Mattersburg in 1989, studied biology at the University of Vienna from 1989 to 1995 and graduated with a diploma as a zoologist. From 1996 to 1998 he was a project assistant at the Konrad Lorenz Research Center in Grünau . In 1999 he did community service with the Red Cross . After completing his doctorate in 2001 at the University of Vienna, Bugnyar was a visiting scientist at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognitive Research (KLI) in Altenberg . With an Erwin Schrödinger scholarship from the FWF , Bugnyar conducted research at the University of Vermont from 2001 to 2003 . With the FWF return grant, Bugnyar set up a research group at the Konrad Lorenz Research Center in Grünau. In 2007 Thomas Bugnyar was a lecturer at the University of St Andrews , Scotland . In 2008 Bugnyar completed his habilitation in cognitive biology at the University of Vienna. In 2008 he was offered a position as W3 professor at the University of Tübingen ; In 2009 a call to the University of Vienna. In 2010 Thomas Bugnyar co-founded the Department of Cognitive Biology at the University of Vienna and the research facility at Haidlhof, Bad Vöslau. In 2013 Thomas Bugnyar was accepted as a member of the Young Curia of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

Thomas Bugnyar has been a professor for cognitive ethology at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna since January 2013 and is head of the department for cognitive biology.
