German Stock Exchange

As the successor to Mathias Hlubek , Thomas Eichelmann took over the position of CFO in order to continue the change in strategy forced by hedge funds and to implement the fundamental reorganization of the company. The change in strategy consisted of no longer playing an active role in the consolidation of the European stock market landscape; H. No longer aiming for a merger with a dominant foreign exchange such as the London Stock Exchange , and instead creating a higher return for shareholders in the exclusively short term through organic growth, downsizing, outsourcing, share buybacks and divestments. The reorganization into a divisional structure created the prerequisites for making partial sales better. In December 2008, the press and the board of directors learned of negotiations with the stock exchange operator NYSE Euronext . Eichelmann's role can be seen in connection with the so-called locust debate that preceded his assumption of office. Activist shareholders that the former chairman of the board Werner G. Seifert and the resignation of the former chairman of the supervisory board Rolf-E. Breuer , repeatedly called for the Deutsche Börse Group to be broken up by selling Clearstream or other business areas. After there had been public speculation in mid-March 2009 that the hedge funds had withdrawn their economic involvement, the Supervisory Board dismissed Thomas Eichelmann as CFO on March 23, 2009 because of "differing views on individual business aspects". The share of the German stock exchange then gave way, analysts were critical.

Aton

In February 2010 the holding company Aton GmbH in Fulda decided to expand its management organization, which until then had consisted of two managing directors , to include the role of chief executive. The position was filled with Thomas Eichelmann. He also acts as the head of the associated family office for the Helmig family , who are the sole owners of the company.

Public criticism

Eichelmann came under repeated public criticism as CFO. When Roland Berger Strategy Consultants switched to Deutsche Börse , the latter paid him a “one-time non-performance-related bonus” of EUR 2.7 million for lost claims. The move of Deutsche Börse from Frankfurt to Eschborn, which was organized in his area of responsibility and which saved trade tax, was discussed in principle as a “fiduciary duty” of the Executive Board.

Sports

Eichelmann was an active competitive athlete and played tennis in a regional league. Today he is involved in the German Sports Aid Foundation as a member of the Board of Trustees.
