Thomas Flynn (bishop, 1931)

Thomas Flynn (born July 8, 1931 in Ballaghaderreen ; † June 3, 2015 ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Achonry .

Life

Thomas Flynn was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Achonry on June 17, 1956 . He was a longtime teacher and later also president of St. Nathy College in Ballaghaderreen.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 30, 1976 Bishop of Achonry. The Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland , Gaetano Alibrandi , donated him episcopal ordination on February 20 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Cunnane , Archbishop of Tuam , and James Fergus , Bishop Emeritus of Achonry. He was the spokesman for the Bishops' Conference and from 1992 to 2004 chaired the Education Commission. He was instrumental in the 1998 reform of the Irish Schools Act.

On November 20, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
